What is PBT?

Polybutylene terephthalate (PBT) is an outstanding engineering thermoplastic known for its excellent combination of mechanical and physical properties. As a semicrystalline polyester, PBT offers excellent toughness and fatigue resistance, good heat resistance, superior weather resistance, outstanding electrical properties, and low water absorption. Modified PBT materials, enhanced through reinforcement (such as glass fiber), flame retardant additives, and other modifications, exhibit improved heat resistance, flame retardancy, dimensional stability, and elastic modulus, making them suitable for demanding applications in the automotive and electronic/electrical industries.

Application of Modified PBT Materials in the Electronics and Electrical Field

To achieve intelligent and high-performance electrical appliances, materials must meet rigorous technical standards beyond design and electrical requirements. The plastics used for internal circuit control systems must satisfy demanding specifications including high glow wire performance and high comparative tracking index (CTI). PBT materials are extensively utilized in the automotive industry across a broad spectrum of applications. These include electrical components such as ignition distributors, fuse boxes, and various connectors, as well as exterior and interior parts including headlamp housings, headlight bezels, window support mechanisms, door handles, wiper motor housings, central locking components, air intake filters and sensors, fuel pump assemblies and supply system components, and airbag housings. Looking ahead, global vehicle production is projected to maintain an average annual growth rate of approximately 3.5% over the next five years, which will correspondingly drive sustained market demand for modified PBT materials.
